Levels of reality


A work of art takes shape within the context of time. It exists in the present. It responds to the force of gravity. My primary goal is to create the possibility of believing and existing in two parallel times. One is absolute, cosmological time, where we can feel but not touch; and reason without ever achieving true understanding. A time that looks towards infinity. But there is another, parallel time that considers everyday life and the knitting together of the moments when we eat, kiss, meet, let our hair down, and feel pain and joy.

I strive to merge both these concepts of time in my work. The internal and external are separated by skin. Metaphorically speaking, the skin is where existence lies, and the content of this existence is the body…
