Inaugurated in 1998, Nylon represents a number of emerging artists and works with many others through housing and showing works on paper. Nylon's three key functions are:
1) A programme of shows which is curated to include key emerging artists from New York and London. Recent
shows include Roger Kelly, Paul Housley and Ruth Root. In addition, Nylon invites an independent curator each
year to put together a group show. Next year's show, which will inaugurate Nylon's new space on Vyner Street in East
London, will be curated by Gavin Wade;
2) The Flatfiles. These contain works on paper (originals) of around 100 artists from New York and London. The
ratio is about 50-50. These are kept in architects' plan chests and may be viewed during gallery hours. This not
only gives artists additional representation but in addition encourages younger people into the field of collecting
contemporary art. The work is generally of a size which may be included in a domestic collection and is also
priced accessibly;
3) The Archive. This houses the slide images and documentation (CV's, reviews, videos
etc) for all the artists in the Flatfiles plus others who do not make works on paper. It is
for collectors to see additional work that cannot be stored at the gallery, and other
dealers and curators who are looking for emerging contemporary work.
