Smart
Cards System March 23, 2000 Logika deploys Kiosk in Japan
Logika Comp
has invented a system for the decentralized issue of credit cards and
cards in general. Tried out with success in Japan, the new system, called
KIOSK, issues five different types of plastic cards, credit and debit
cads(Bancomat), electronic purses(Mondex, Visa Cards, etc.), and also
perfomes other operations usually carried out by ATM terminals (withdrawing
cash, displaying balances and operations, ect.). The machines are of the
self-service type and are installed in credit agencies, in large-scales
distibution stores, and on streets. KIOSK is an open, modular system,
easily fitted with new modules and additional functions, and is equipped
with a drum of 120 characters: Katakana, OCR7-b, Standar Gothic, Punctuation,
Special Characters, and MasterCards. KIOSK is active 24 hours a day and
is provided with anti-blocking devices that ensure the automatic removal
of any plastic cards from the loader and from the stacker. And finally,
the entire machine is enclosed within a burglarproof secure box. The user
in fact gets his new card immediately, avoiding the waiting and delays
associated with bank procedures and postal delivery. The identification
process take place in four phases: entering a secret code, visual recognition
of the client by means of a video camera, presentation of a document using
a scanner, and vocal conversation with an operator.
