The perspective of a Distributed Networked Accounting Process (DNAP), as defined in this project proposal, offers new opportunities for SMEs, Chartered Accountants, Tax Advisors, and Fiscal Consultants, to create more flexible, adaptive accounting systems and processes by combining business and software engineering into a single, integrated approach.

The primary objective of DNAP is to develop, demonstrate, and implement an infrastructure to enable SMEs to collaborate and share information through distributed accounting processes. This infrastructure consists of a reference architecture, a reference implementation and a toolset to be used to construct and operate distributed accounting processes in combination with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products.
